Our new club President – Andy O Sullivan

Kenmare Shamrocks GAA would like to announce that our new club President is Andy O Sullivan. A native of Buttevant, County Cork, Andy made his way to Kenmare in December 1974, where he quickly became involved in the local community. In 1975, he joined the Kenmare Shamrocks GAA Club, marking the beginning of his lifelong dedication to the club. His first role with the club was participating in the St. Patrick’s Night play, and shortly after, he began playing both football and hurling.

In 1976, he took his first step into club administration by joining the Kenmare Shamrocks Committee, a role he held for an impressive 48 years. Throughout his tenure, he served in various capacities, including as Treasurer, Acting Secretary, and Club Chairman, playing an integral part in the club’s development and success.

His commitment extended beyond the club, as he represented Kenmare Shamrocks on several important GAA bodies. He served as a Delegate to the County Board, County Board na nÓg, and the South Kerry Hurling Board. Additionally, he represented Kerry on the Munster Council Coaching Sub-Committee (later known as the Games Development Committee), where one of his notable contributions was organizing Kerry’s first-ever Summer Camp in 1987.

His dedication to the GAA was also seen in his role as a Club representative on the County Scór Committee and as an adjudicator for District and County competitions. He served as a referee for the club, specializing in hurling, and also took on the role of Trainer/Coach for teams ranging from U12 up to Senior level in hurling.

Furthermore, he was involved with Kerry Hurling teams as a Selector for U14, U16, Minor, and U21 teams. In addition to these roles, he provided hurley maintenance and repairs for all Kenmare club teams, ensuring the equipment was always in top condition.

Throughout his many years of service, our new President’s unwavering passion for the GAA and his community has made a lasting impact on the Kenmare Shamrocks Club and the wider GAA community in Kerry. Andy will hold the position for the next three years.
